Childs Sulzmann Architects have provided conceptual architecture, interior design and project management on over 50 projects for their client, national hotel and pub chain, JD Wetherspoon. JD Wetherspoon’s portfolio includes a wide variety of properties including local landmarks, historic listed buildings and properties built across all decades of the 20th century.
Many of the properties have complex challenges relating to their original construction and design. Often there are sensitive planning issues and many are in city centre locations with limited access and neighbours close by. Most have very tight construction programmes as the objective is always to remain open during the development works and if not, to close for the minimum amount of time possible. At all times consideration has to be given to how best to improve the commercial operation of the establishment.
Peter Sulzmann, Director, whose team manages these projects from start to finish comments, “There is no standard specification for these projects, each one is different and has its own challenges. As Project Managers, we are responsible for every last tap and door handle being exactly right, and in the right place at the right time.”
